Independence & Self-Care Skills For All Ages

Our OTs are committed to promoting independence and self-care skills in clients of all ages. We assess each client’s abilities and challenges in daily living activities and create customised plans to enhance their skills in areas such as dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene.

We use task analysis to break down complex activities into smaller, manageable steps. This methodical approach helps clients learn and master each step, gradually building towards complete independence. Our therapists also recommend and train clients in the use of adaptive equipment and assistive technology, where necessary, to promote autonomy.

Empowering clients to take control of their daily routines not only improves their functional abilities but also boosts their confidence and self-esteem. We work closely with families to ensure that these skills are practiced and reinforced outside of therapy sessions, leading to greater independence in everyday life.

Empowering Independence and Self-Care:

How our Occupational Therapists Foster Skills for Daily Living

Independence and self-care skills are crucial for children to navigate their daily lives with confidence and autonomy. From dressing and feeding themselves to managing personal hygiene and household tasks, these skills lay the foundation for children’s overall well-being and success. However, for some children, challenges such as developmental delays, motor coordination difficulties, sensory sensitivities, or cognitive impairments may hinder their ability to perform these tasks independently. At LEAP Centre, our occupational therapists are dedicated to helping children develop and enhance their independence and self-care skills, empowering them to thrive in all aspects of life.
